Clear Creek Clean Up
This year marked the 12th annual Clear Creek Cleanup . It was held on Saturday, February 19. Volunteers in the community gathered under the 270 Boat Ramp in League City at 8 a.m. The League City Clear Creek Cleanup, is the Largest river beautification project in the Gulf Coast Region.
Thousand's of people have contributed to the event. Since 2000, more than 7,000 volunteers have removed 342 tons of trash and debris from Clear Creek, including 5,000 tires and 2,700 refrigerators and freezers. Police departments lend rescue boats to take volunteers to cleanup sites and boat captains transport volunteers with trash bags to selected sites where they pick up trash.
I have enjoyed participating for many years. This year it was especially wonderful because I brought my 7 year od Grand daughter to join me. Together we waded in water and mud and hauled a lot of junk back to our meeting spot. She held in there like a trooper with never a complaint. Happy to start making her little differance in our community. Yes this coming from a proud Grandmother. Great to be passing on values the next generation of giving back and volunteering.
